I’m excited to share some highlights from my recent artistic journey, especially the moments of inspiration drawn from the enchanting landscapes of Tuscany.
Tuscany’s Wildflowers: Nature’s Poetry
This year’s trip to Italy was a treasure trove of inspiration, and Tuscany’s wildflowers were the poets that spoke to my soul. The early rain season in May and June transformed the countryside, casting a spell over the olive groves on our farm.
Colours, My Truest Companions
I have always been captivated by the dance of colours, and my art reflects this love affair. I’d say my work leans towards the impressionistic, where I play with colours to amplify the beauty around me. Blues for shadows, spontaneous brush strokes, and the meticulous study of each flower for a still life – each piece tells a unique story.
Art as a Balm for the Soul
In a world where challenges abound, I see my art as a small antidote. A deliberate infusion of calmness and happiness, my colour palette aims to bring a sense of tranquility. Colours, for me, are more than pigments; they are emotions. Reds evoke passion and love, yet they can stir feelings of anger and power. Blues and greens, on the other hand, whisper of the delicate and peaceful, akin to the soothing embrace of the ocean.
The Artistic Odyssey
The journey of creating a painting begins in solitude. Drawing and contemplation pave the way for the artistic process, and the choice of medium becomes a crucial decision. Whether it’s the delicate strokes of watercolours or the bold textures of oils and palette knives, each piece is a testament to the beauty of creative expression.
Silk Scarfs and Kaftans: A New Chapter Unfolds
Excitingly, a new collection of silk scarfs and kaftans is making its debut, specially designed for the Italian market. These exquisite pieces will soon grace the Monteverdi Hotel group’s boutique in Tuscany. Collaborating with Mr. Cioffi has been an honour, opening up new avenues for my artistic exploration.
Upcoming Art Retreat and Collaborations
I’m delighted to announce the second Art retreat at Podere Colombaio in June 2024. Picture watercolour classes in picturesque piazzas, wine tasting in Montepulciano, and a culinary course at Castiglioncello del Trinoro. More details will follow in the coming months!
Venturing into major hotels in the Cape with my silk products has been an exciting endeavour. The collaboration with the Monteverdi hotel group continues to bloom, including upcoming watercolour workshops for American clients during the holiday season.
Encouragement for Fellow Artists
To my fellow creatives: Embrace the challenge, think outside the box, discipline yourself, create daily, and above all, never give up!
Future Plans and Workshops
I’m in the process of introducing my silk products to major Cape hotels, and there’s a possibility of another watercolour workshop at the Rupert museum towards the end of this year.
Closing Thoughts
In the midst of life’s challenges, always follow your heart. I hope this letter sparks a bit of inspiration in your creative journey.
Warm regards,
