Buying Art Online – The Future of Art Galleries in South Africa
Buying art online may very well be the future of the art industry. However, this doesn’t mean that art lovers around the world will be buying digital copies of their chosen art piece.
Instead, the concept of having a physical art gallery may become a thing of the past; not soon, but one day, and replaced by interactive, online art galleries.
I’m sure we can agree that nothing quite compares to visiting a gallery, choosing your favourite piece from the wall and taking it home with you. Perhaps it’s the same as reading a hard copy version of your favourite novel rather than on a Kindle.
But, what about the refreshing feeling of stepping out of our comfort zones and trying something completely new and slightly unorthodox?
Buying Art Online – Is this the Future of Art?
I often wonder if older generations are more likely to resist the shift towards a more digital way of life, especially as our children have grown up right in the middle of the technological age; a very different era to the one we grew up in.
Could it be that we are holding onto distant memories of how simple life used to be before everything started speeding up?
It may seem like a paradox, but going digital could make a positive impact on the environment as well as our fragile and uncertain future.
We can cut back on printing costs and consumption of printing materials for brochures, business cards and posters.
Energy consumption is reduced when there is no longer a need to keep all the bright lights burning, even when the gallery is closed.
Carbon emissions are reduced as less travel is required to get to the gallery and back home again.
These are just a few, simple things that can contribute to a more sustainable future, which our planet so desperately needs right now.

As South Africans, we now have more responsibility than ever before to help our precarious economy grow into one that offers more security, not only for ourselves, but for our children and all the future generations to come.
It may seem like an impossible task, but if we make changes in our personal lives that dramatically reduce our environmental footprint, if we support local businesses as far as possible and minimise what and how much we consume, we can get it right.
It’s for this reason that I have decided to move to a more digital way of selling my art, an exciting new road for me to navigate as an “old school” mother, grandmother and artist. This way I can pour all of my creative energy into my art, while spending more quality time with my family and loved ones.
Teresa Decinti – Buying Art Online from a South African Artist
I believe that with a positive mindset and a passion for this beautiful planet we call home, we can all work together towards a brighter, more colourful future.
These strange times have provided us with an irreplaceable opportunity to re-evaluate how we conduct business and our personal lives and to reassess what’s important and sustainable.
On that note, I am very excited to announce that I am working on a brand-new website that will make buying art online easier for my local and international customers.
I am very excited about this new chapter that lies ahead and I would like to encourage everybody to open their minds and hearts to the possibilities of a new way of life, a better one for all.
