Having an art gallery in Stellenbosch, I feel extremely connected to the winelands as well as the majestic mountain ranges that surround the quaint little town.
The street that my gallery is found on is filled with vibrancy – from cute coffee shops to local art vendors and other art galleries in Stellenbosch.
Teresa Decinti – Oil and Watercolour South African Artist
Although there is no better way to experience a painting than in person – my website and Facebook page (hyperlinked) enables me to share my artwork with people all over the world.
I often write blogs containing images of paintings I have done and short descriptions of what inspired me while painting them.
In this blog I’ll be sharing a few of my most new pieces. I’ve recently been drawn to abstract with artists such as John Metlerkamp of South Africa, and as well as the work of Robert Hodgins.

Helderberg Mountains – Oil Paintings
This painting is of the Helderberg mountains and is an oil painting done with palette knife. It is the view from Rust and Vrede winery – a special place perfect for unwinding and relaxing.
I am also known for painting the Helderberg Mountains in my region in watercolour and oils. I love to paint in bright colours and with the knife I am able to create texture as well as a bit of an abstract feel.
Table Mountain – Watercolour Paintings
This painting is of Table Mountain with Lions Head seen in the background.
It is 90cm x 90cm in size.
The painting was done with a new brush and paint which I purchased in Italy during our recent family trip.
Again, I love vibrant colours and this painting is no exception. With so many paintings of Table Mountain circulating, I thought of painting a different angle of our beautiful mountain. I used paper for texture and painted over it to create the effects of the mountain.
Karoo Home – Watercolour paintings
In this painting the stark contrasting colours of the Karoo demonstrates the dryness of our country and the secluded house in the middle nowhere shows the isolation that people in the Karoo experience…
The inspiration behind this painting was to show people that life in isolation and drought is possible.
I absolutely love the colours of the desert, yellow ochres, raw umber and the Indian reds, adding a touch of green to the roof made the entire visual pop.
Kloofnek Road – Watercolour paintings
I adore the Italian Pines found wind bent over Kloofnek Road. They create a such a fun and mystical ambiance while driving through to Camps Bay.
Their magical shapes and formations inspired me to paint them and then naturally I added colour to lift the overall energy of the painting.
I used more subtle colours for the background mountains and sea, giving the main focus are the trees… I needed to bring in a protea to add more colour to foreground.
Abstract Winelands – Watercolour paintings
This painting represents a spiritual connection between myself and vines which to me are a symbolisation of life. The branches of vines are strong and symbolise the anchor needed for love to grow.
Life is all about love, perseverance, strength, courage, hope and vision.. This all comes together perfectly in a Vine – expressing the bold strength in the world of our thoughts and imagination and having faith in something spiritual to guide us.
We are spiritual beings. I believe in the existence of God giving us strength and vision and an anchor in life and love.
